The Ethiopian Institute of Corporate Governance (EICG) hosted the 3rd African Corporate Governance Network (ACGN) Annual General Meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 9 – 11 August 2017.
A “Corporate Governance and Business Ethics” Conference was also held alongside the ACGN meeting – This Conference provided the opportunity to discuss and present leading practices, ongoing initiatives and shortcomings in the field of economic and corporate governance and ethical leadership that are required for Africa to succeed in its growth objectives.
A special address to delegates was made by guest of honour H.E. Mr. Ali Suleiman, Commissioner of The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission whilst a key note address was made by Professor Deon Rossouw of The Ethics Institute on ‘Ethics in Business’.
Two panel sessions were held in the afternoon, with the first panel addressing ‘Corporate Governance in the African context: Exploring good corporate governance practices as may be applicable and relevant to an economy driven largely by Small-Medium Enterprises, Family-owned Businesses and State-owned entities’ whilst the second pannel addressed ‘Case Studies in African Corporate Governance: Sharing of lessons learnt in corporate governance through African case studies at an entity, country and regulatory level’.
Also over the course of the meeting, the ACGN welcomed the Institute of Directors Centre for Corporate Governance in Nigeria (IODCCG) as an affiliate member.
